Jury member for the Montblanc Patronage Arts Award

On 8 June in Zurich, the brand presented the Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award to Henry Levy, a resident of the German-speaking Swiss city and owner of the BINZ39 gallery.

This non-profit institution provides young artists with a work space free of charge for a period of two years, allowing them to develop their art. BINZ39 also organises exchanges between Swiss and foreign artists.

Delphine Favier, Managing Director of Montblanc Suisse, presented him with a copy of the limited edition “Patron of Art Peggy Guggenheim” – a collection of writing instruments to which a new edition is added every year – as well as the sum of 15,000 Euros for a cultural project chosen by Henry Levy.

The Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award was founded a quarter of a century ago. In sixteen different countries, it rewards patrons who support and encourage art in all its forms. This is the second time that the distinction has been awarded in Switzerland. Every year an international jury – which includes the well-known Swiss writer Joël Dicker and the industrial designer Nicolas Le Moigne, both of whom were present in Zurich – selects the lucky winners.

Vitrine project for Hermès in Zurich and Geneva

ECAL Gradient stool joins the collection of the CNAP

Research projet with EPFL+ECAL Lab for Vacheron Constantin

Chronogramme: A voyage through time’s memory

The uninterrupted 260-year history of Vacheron Constantin is not only an expression of the manufacturer’s constant evolution of virtuosity, know-how and creativity, but also bears witness to the evolution of our own society. A collection of nearly 350 meters of documents, the earliest dating back to 1755, recounts the desires of each period, the emergence of new knowledge and the birth of intercontinental exchange. These exceptional archives are also physical memories of each watch piece—century after century—and constitute a world heritage of immeasurable value. Vacheron Constantin initiated a research partnership with EPFL to guarantee the long-term preservation of this world heritage and to revive the slumbering knowledge held within. The collaboration between manufacturer and academic laboratories is progressively opening the doors to new ways of expressing the richness of this heritage. The Digital Humanities Lab, in collaboration with Vacheron Constantin’s Heritage Department, has developed digitization principles for ancient handwriting recognition. Together with semantic text mining, the researchers are able to constitute a coherent historical narrative. EPFL+ECAL Lab’s role is to bring these newly vivified archives back to life. Three custom interactive designs offer invitations to voyage through this universe, redefining our relationship with the digital—in the service of the manufacturer’s history and values.

Mountain Climbers: Auctions by Christie’s

Verbier Mountain Climbers is a swiss cultural and entrepreunerial project for charity: A travelling exhibition of gondolas, transformed by swiss designers, which will then be sold at auction by Christies, benefitting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Switzerland.

Celebrating a swiss icon of design and tourism, the project consists in salvaging ski gondolas from Verbier, and have them transformed by swiss designers.  The designers have generously offered their creative talent at no cost, only receiving a fixed budget to cover the material costs of the transformation.

In the fall of 2013, Genève Aéroport will host an exhibition of the gondolas, throughout the airport spaces. At the end of this exhibition, the gondolas will be sold by Christie’s, benefitting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Switzerland, which grants wishes of children living with a life-threatening illness.
